Unexpected Rainy Days

Today I was planning on sitting down and writing a blog post about the glory and wonder of beautiful sunny weather, however the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray (don't tell me my English Literature A level hasn't come in handy), and when I woke up this morning I found a cloudy sky drizzling with rain. Great.

But rather than use it as a reason to neglect blogging, I decided to use it to my advantage and write a post about how, sometimes, wet weather can be a good thing. I don't know about you guys, but I often feel like warm weather means that I have to go for a walk, to the park, do a bit of shopping or sit outside in order to really enjoy it, when really what I want to do is sit inside, read and put that film on that I've been meaning to watch for ages.

Aside from a mad dash to the post office during the 10 minutes that it stopping bucketing it down, today I've done all of those things and barely left the house. I've been reading We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver, which is an absolute god-send of a book and I recommend it to anyone and everyone; it's such an interesting exploration into place of the family as an institution in modern society, drinking lots of tea, reading NME magazine and (of course) catching up on blogging. I'm also planning on watching either The Full Monty, which is a film full of cheeky British humour and watching it is just a splendous experience all round, or The History Boys, the film adaptation of a play by Alan Bennett and one of the most uniquely triumphant stories I have ever come across.

I really love that rainy days seem to make everything slow down, and give me the opportunity to step back from everything and just have some time to enjoy the little things. Although I love summer and the warmer weather, as well as keeping myself occupied and out-and-about, I think sometimes being forced to stay inside and spend a day doing things that wastes time but barely any energy is exactly what I need.

OOTD | 17.06.14

So now that I am done and finished with college for ever and ever and ever (providing my exams didn't all go horribly wrong and I have to resit them all next year), I have got absolutely loads of spare time on my hands. So yesterday I found myself actually PLANNING an outfit rather than just finding something that was clean, shoving it on and hoping it works.

I bought this lacy kimono from H&M only last Friday, so they will probably still have it in store if you want to purchase it yourself, and I've been dying to wear it ever since. So yesterday I got my chance! I was only walking to my grandma's house, about 20 minutes away, but I still felt all floaty and summery walking down the street in this. Until it started spitting, that is.

I teamed it with a black vest top and black leggings, as well as my beloved jelly shoes and brown satchel. I also curled my hair into some loose beachy waves in order to give off that proper summer-style effect. I think it really fits with the white trend that has come into fashion recently without making me feel like I'm going to play tennis or something.

The outfit felt so lovely and comfortable to wear that I didn't really want to get changed out of it at the end of the day. I think it would look fab with a brightly coloured day dress, or some high-wasted Levi shorts, and I definitely think it's going to be my staple festival item of clothing for when I go to T in the Park in July!
