Written by my favourite person ever at the minute, Caitlin Moran, and her sister Caroline, new sitcom Raised by Wolves is centered around two sisters from Wolverampton, Aretha and Germaine (I'm assuming the indirect reference to Greer was done on purpose, considering Caitlin's declared love for her in How To Be A Woman). Aretha, based on Caroline, is busy attempting to read Plath and Orwell, Germaine, based on Caitlin, is fixated on getting local yob Lee Rind, whilst their mother complains about 'David fucking Cameron' and constantly refers to 'dark days' that are apparently imminent and their grandfather smokes weed and comes in through the window due to his reluctance to believe in keys. As a massive fan of Caitlin's writing, I can say that the first episode of this definitely didn't disappoint. I love it for the same reasons I love My Mad Fat Diary: there's no bullshit. It's true to life, the sisters are realistic (although I am definitely more of an Aretha by nature, I have been friends with plenty of Germaines in my teenage years) and the humour is subtle, clever and sharp. It made for a great opening episode and I must say I can't wait for the next installment, even if it does cut straight through both the original episode and the E4+1 repeat episode of Made in Chelsea.
I don't know about anywhere else in the world, but it's been getting pretty cold here in the UK, and so to keep up with the weather, some of my most used things in November have been very winter-related. I've had to wrap up warm in coats, scarfs and jumpers, but despite the cold I have managed to make it to the shops a couple of times in order to purchase a few beauty products!
I got this Calvin Klein One Shock perfume for my birthday and it's just very nice and fresh smelling. I don't like perfumes that smell overly nice, as I think it just ends up smelling like old women's perfume. But this is a very nice subtle smell, and makes a change from my usual perfume!
The lipstick I have been wearing most this last month is Beehive by 17, as it's a nice pale pink colour and suits my skin tone really well. Because it's been getting colder, I also picked up some lip balm with aloe vera in it to stop them from getting chapped, and this was just makes my lips feel really lovely and soft all the time. The mascara is my favourite purchase of last month, and it's the new Mega Plush mascara from Maybelline. It makes my lashes look so lovely and long, and I actually prefer it to the Maybelline falsies mascara. In order to keep warm this winter, I picked up this green jumper from H&M which I usually wear with my black skater skirt and Super Cosy (real name) tights from Primark. The cream jumper I got from a vintage charity shop, and I usually team it with my leggings and grey boots. My bag is from H&M, and after looking for a leather bag for ages, I can finally say that I've found one big enough to fit all my college stuff in without the strap snapping (potentially very embarrassing). After ordering this grey Boucle coat from H&M at the beginning of November, it finally came three weeks(!) later and is definitely one of the comfiest and warmest coats I've ever purchased. I always team it with this tartan scarf from Primark, as I think it goes well with the androgynous style of the coat. The book I was reading for the majority of November was Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. It was recommended and lent to me by a friend, and I just absolutely fell in love with the satirical edge and sharp wit it contains. The character of Yossarian is totally brilliant, and I've fallen in love with Major Major Major Major's (the guy who looks like Henry Fonda) uselessness.
